Health Benefit Claims
Some claim that the bulbs in the lamps heat the salt and these produce negative ions which are believed to counter balance the positive ions that modern day pollution and electrical equipment emit and help eradicate the effects of electric smog.

These are some of the claims:

  • Cleanse & Deodorise the Air
  • Reduce Allergy & Asthma Symptoms
  • Eases Coughing
  • Increase Energy Levels
  • Neutralise Electromagnetic Radiation
  • Better Sleep
  • Improve Mood & Concentration
  • Treat Seasonal Affective Disorder
  • Reduce Static Electricity in the Air
  • Environmentally-Friendly Light Source

Recent Studies
Although recent studies have not provided any evidence to support these claims and that you would have to heat that lamps to such high temperatures in order to create such an effect on the environment around you. However, we do know that salt is good for absorbing moisture so could be beneficial for damp environments and associated conditions that are effected by damp environments.

History of Himalayan Salt Lamps
Millions of years ago during the Jurassic era the Himalayan mountains were created through shear pressure of tectonic plates, they continue to grow at around 2cm per year. The salt crystals were formed when Tibet was closer to the equator when the environment was much wetter, the elements and minerals then became fossilised and crystallised in the mountains, producing the most natural salt the world has come across.

The salt has a similar makeup of our blood with all it’s minerals and elements and used to only be available to the rich via alchemists and used to be a currency in it’s own right, due to the preserving properties.
